The Nickelodeon kings gives us and the Nickelodeon kings takes it away. Paramount Skydance's newest CEO of TV channels and streaming services, George Cheeks has unforunately announced that the two streaming revivals of two of Nickelodeon's biggest franchises, Dora the Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be coming to an end within the next two years or so.
Dora the Explorer: Say Hola to Adventures (2023-2027)
3 seasons, 67 episodes and a hour-long special
The CGI-animated Dora the Explorer reboot DORA: Say Hola to Adventure which made its debut back in September 2023 is about to have this franchise scancelled for good yet again. The second half of the reboot's second season which was originally slated to release on Paramount+ in the fourth quarter of 2025 has now been postponed for a TBA 2026 release date with a linear premiere on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. as usual. This cancellation makes absolutely no sense as it's one of Nickelodeon's six top-rated never ending sagas of quality preschool television and having it scrapped again seems offensive towards both Hispanic Americans and 2000s kids alike.
The show was also renewed for a third season of 26 episodes as the final season of the rebooted series set for release across Nickelodeon and Paramount+ airwaves next year. The reboot series went to decline in quality recently with Marc Weiner and Chris Gillford leaving the project.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem! (2023-2027)
2 seasons, 48 episodes and two theatrical feature films
Though the TMNT first started back in 1987, not every single incarnation of the TV show can last forever and that unfortunately is the case for the current era of these pizza-addicted crime fighting turtles that recently made their triumphant return to Nickelodeon in October 2023 under the direction of Seth Rogen who is now working on an upcoming 50th Anniversary reunion special for the 1970s Disney classic, the iconic Jim Henson Company smash hit The Muppet Show also due for release in 2026.
The cancellation of Tales of the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem saga seems quite understandable as Nickelodeon and Paramount+ have been putting this show into the same release fate as Hey Duggee from the BBC with viewers having to wait a whole year before the sedcond half of episodes is released. The second half of the first season comes out next month followed by the first half of the second season will release in 2026 with the final ever episodes slated for release around October 2027 when the movie sequel is released.
These cancellations come as no surprise as Nickelodeon hasaxed Blue's Clues & You! earlier this July and Netflix's shameless live-action ripoff of Avatar: The Final Airbender have also wrapped production, with the latter series set to air its third and final season in 2027. In other bad news, Paramount had recently lost over 2,000 employees with animation boss Ramsey Naito calling it quits and retiring.
It's currently unknown whether or not the final episodes will be actually released on Paramount+ or if these two revival shows will get illegally deleted from Paramount+'s own streaming service and move to Netflix as well, just like the same fate that happened to the series finale of Star Trek: Prodigy which aired its second and final season on Netflix last July in 2024 and that franchise series too has also been scrapped, with the second season set to leave Netflix on January 1st.
