For the first time in 13 years, Disney Junior is back in the live-action department. One of the first content slate announcements of this year's annual Disney Junior Let's Play Party convention at Disneyland Resort theme park in Anaheim, California, with the launch of Disney Junior's newest miniseris Megan & Cupcake: Ready for Preschool (Season 1, 10 episodes). Slated to release on Disney Junior and Disney+ in September 2026 with its first shorts releasing on YouTube today.
The new series filmed at the historic Kaufman Astonia Studios in Queens, New York and produced by Riverstreet Productions and Sesame Workshop in association with Disney Branded Television Kids & Family, the new puppetry-based series follows the ventriliquist duo of Sesame Street Muppets voice actors hosts Megan Baptiste and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph in the new musical-driven elementary school in their animated musical world of The Wow Factory.
The new Megan and Cupcake puppetry-based series is an updated live-action version of the award winning Disney Junior Music trilogy released between 2017-2019 starring Disney Junior announcer Genevieve Goings, frontwoman of Choo Choo Soul and Tally Hall frontman Rob Cantor from the hit American Idol preschool ripoff Happy Monster Band.
This is Disney Junior's first live-action series in over 13 years following the death of the TV series based on New Orleans based alt-rock kids group Imagination Movers ended in 2013. The new series is part of this year's Disney Junior content slate announcements that will take them into 2030.
