This Halloween season, get ready because everyone's favorite purple dinosaur is back for a whole new generation of preschoolers and the young at heart. Warner Bros./Discovery owned Cartoon Network and HBO Max is slated to premiere Barney's World, an all-new CGI animated series that continues the ongoing saga of one of the greatest children's television series of our time. The new series is slated to premiere on Monday October 14th and Friday October 18th, 2024 on streaming and cable respectively.
In the all-new series (Season 15, 26 half-hours x 52 11-minute episodes), Barney and his dinomite friends including Billy Joe (the renamed full version of B.J.), Baby Bop and Riff and three new kids as they venture on their imagination adventures across their school and playground homebase landscape in this new set of adventures that introduces youngsters to the skills of sharing, caring and imagination. The new series will also take on a similar fashion of the 2012 PBS series Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood which the reboot's soundtrack will both include new tracks and reworked versions of classic songs, including the franchise's signature "I Love You" finale which has been a pain in the butt for adults ever since.
In the new series, Barney is joined by a new cast of dino-mite pals including Jonathan Langdon taking over from the legendary Bob West and Dean Wendt in the lead role, Jennifer Tam takes over from Patty Wintz as the voice of BK/Billy Joe and kids' TV veteran Bryn McAulry (PAW Patrol) takes over from Julie Johnson as the voice of Baby Bop, the latter two being the first voice cast change for the other dinosaur-based characters in the franchise's 36-year history. Also another redeeming factor is that the rebooted series will go back to the show's original locations of the school and treehouse playground and will have local Canadian children voicing Barney's kids which will contain zero Disney Channel celebrities ruining Barney's childhood whatsoever.
Like recent series that have premiered on cable and streaming at different dates or at the same time across Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS and Cartoon Network, the new Barney series will hit streaming first before it hits linear broadcasting on cable television. The complete first season is slated to premiere on Monday, October 14th, 2024 on HBO Max and Discovery+, followed by a linear cable broadcastacross Cartoon Network and Cartoonito on Friday, October 18th. New episodes will roll out at the series' usual timeslots, Mondays to Fridays at 9:30AM (ET/PT)/8:00am CT.
But that's not all. Cartoonito has a whole slew of new programs coming out for the spooky season of October 2024. Other new preschool series joining the Cartoon Network roster this month includes the two highly anctipated series Lu and the Bally Bunch and Silly Sundays, and joining them is newly greenlit series Let's Go Bananas!, all three of which are slated to premiere on Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, Discovery+ and HBO Max on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday October 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. To hype up the tension for the new Barney reboot series, a new collection of shorts will also be rolling out daily airing new shorts Mondays through Fridays from Monday, September 30th.
Barney's World produced by Mattel TV and Hit Entertainment in co-production collaboration with kids' TV giants, the polar bears at Nelvana Limited and Treehouse TV, both owned by Corus Entertainment, is only the third reboot of Hit Entertainment programming from Mattel, following the 2015-2018 Harry Potter ripoff dumpster fire of Bob the Builder and the 2021 more professional and recently successful Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go!, the latter of which continues the Thomas & Friends saga and currently in its 27th season (13 episodes x 26 11-minutes), with the second half of episodes slated to wheel out on Netflix later this month. A reboot of Angelina Ballerina was also planned by Mattel and Hit to be released in 2017 and produced by 9 Story, but it never happened.
Barney's World joins other rebooted and kids' TV series in 2024 including Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Final Airbender, The Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer: Say Hola to Adventures and The Fairly OddParents!: A New Wish, Nickelodeon and Apple TV+'s Yo Gabba Gabbaland!, C artoon Network's Total Drama Island and the upcoming Disney Channel release Wizards BEYOND Waverly Place which is slated to premiere October 29th as part of Disney's MONStober Halloween celebrations.
