On This Month - PAW Patrol First Launched

On this month SEVEN YEARS AGO, Nickelodeon's third preschool charttopper PAAW Patrol was first launched onto the airwaves.

Since then, the series has grown into a franchise with seven seasons of 188 episodes including three hour-long movies with a fourth one for movie theater release on the way in August 2021, two videogames, two broadway musical adaptations, numerous theme park appearances and loads of merchandising products and advertising.

A huge thank you to everyone including Keith Chapman and Ursula Ziegler Sullivan who continue to work hard around the clock in their studios to make the PAW Patrol squad a continued Nickelodeon success over the years and what it is.

Also a huge thank you to all the fans for watching and supporting the program. Without your support the dogs would have never been able to succeed in the Nickelodeon portfollo.

The Splats Are GONE - NickSplat Channel Kicked Off Of VRV

All good things must come to an end, an unfortunately this fate is the same for VRV's successful retro NickSplat channel. The channel has recently been deleted off the VRV service. All NickSplat/Rewind content is still available to watch on Amazon Prime on the NickHits channel. NickSplat on VRV's removal from the app follows as ViacomCBS International is currently in the works of rebranding CBS All Access with a bigger, better and bulked up content slate which is set to be launched on the official CBS app in early (January-April) 2021.

On This Day - SMTV Live & CD UK Premiered

IT'S STILL GOTTA RHYME!!!!!!!!! On this day 22 YEARS AGO, the legendary CITV sketch comedy and music countdown programs SM:TV Live and CD UK first invaded our screens. Over its five and eight-year runs from August 1998-April 2006, a recruit of the legendary hosts including the founding trio of Ant & Dec and Cat Deeley, James Redmond, Brian Dowling, Tess Daley, STEPS members Ian H. Watkins and Claire Richards, Shavaughn Rouakure, Desman Clarke and CITV regular Stephen Mulhern were to entertain the youngsters with some of the greatest comedy sketches as well as a rundown of the biggest music stars at the time.

At 11:30AM following the end of the SMTV Live episodes, the music program CD UK would be broadcasted. Ant, Dec & Cat would still take part in the prograsm until March 2005.

In 2017 following the final episode of Season 14 of Ant & Dec's Saturday Nights Takeaway being filmed  at the Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando, Florida with the SMTV trio reuniting, it was announced that a reunion of the series would air in 2019, but unfortunately plans were cancelled.

Recently as part of Ant & Dec's 30 years of television celebration, the Geordie boys have confirmed that a reboot of SMTV & CD:UK may happen in some way shape or form, but they are still not sure of what date to air it on or how many episodes the reboot will contain.

On This Day - Wow Wow Wubbzy Premiered

On this day 14 YEARS AGO, Bolder & Starz Media's Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! first premiered on Nickelodeon channels in the United States. The series was created by Bob Boyle who was one of the crew members for the unfortunate The Fairly OddParents which has become nothing but an unfortunate disgrace to Nickelodeon in my opinion since it began. Wubbzy is a much better program than F.O.P.. that he was involved in for my taste.

The Canines British Invasion - Nickelodeon Bows Down Third PAW Patrol Movie "Jet to the Rescue" in September 2020

The PAW Patrol squad are returning to the UK for more rescues and mayhem as Nickelodeon bows down the premiere of the series' third hour-long TV movie PAW Patrol 3: Jet to the Rescue on September 25th on Nickelodeon, September 8th on DVD releases and in international movie theater cinemas on September 10th and 24th in Australia & UK respectively.

In the third PAW Patrol movie, Ryder and his dog crew return to the UK for their latest mission in their Mission PAW story arc, their first since October 2018, where they realize that Sweetie must take risks of her crazy misbehavior actions and help the dogs defend the Birmingham parody city of Barkingburg from the Duke of Flappington who is trying to invade it. The voice actor of this new villain character for this movie has yet to be announced.

And on the heels of two successful hour-long films before it The Mighty Pups and Ready Race Rescue, the PAW Patrol is not stopping there. Nickelodeon and Spin Master have already greenlit the show for Season 8 of 26 half-hours and a fourth movie this time heading to the US movie theaters set for release by Paramount, Nickelodeon and Spin Master in August 2021.

On This Day - Shimmer & Shine Premiered

On this day, FIVE YEARS AGO, Nickelodeon's iconic genies SHimmer and Shine were first dropped out of their genie bottles and into the hearts of millions of families worldwide. The program over the years has proven a new staple in the heart of children's television.

Although their adventures have ended in February, their legacy lives on. One of the show's actors Isabella Cramp currently works on Vampirina for Disney Channel.

Nickelodeon Coronavirus Pudate #7

 Here's what the state of COVID19 has affected Nickelodeon as of recently.

Nick Universe at Mall of America has reopened as of August 10th of this month. All returning visitors at the park are required for social distancing and facemasks.

Nickelodeon's Espanol theme park Nickelodeon Suites & Resorts Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is set to welcome back visitors on November 1st.

There are speculations that Netflix will bow down the highly anticipated The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 3: Sponge on the Run in the US on Thursday November 5.

Speaking of SpongeBob Movie 3, the film's theatrical release in Canada had earned $900,000 dollars (a total of 682,000 in the USA and over 1,500,00 in North America).

Some other recent changes to children's entertainment following the COVID pandemic
PBS Kids has aired a special sing-along episode of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood that tackles with the current situation, kicking off the show's fifth season on August 17th.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment's theme park in Orlando, Florida has temporarilly closed several of its children's attractions, including its Barney and Friends-themed attraction A Day at the Park with Barney on Sunday August 9th due to the pandemic.

Sesame Place, SeaWorld Entertainment's Sesame Street-themed park has welcomed back guests on Friday July 24th

The Walt Disney Company's Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks were also reopened two weeks prior on July 10th and 17th respectively.

As of right now, there is no word on when this unfortunate pandemic will end, but some sources state that the virus will go away and things will go back to normal on Sunday November 1st, this year's date where the annual daylights savings time (clocks forward one hour) will end.

On This Day - Are You Afraid of the Dark? Was Submitted for Approval

 Submitted for approval of the midnight society, on this date 28 years ago, Are Youu Afraid of the Dark?, the iconic Nickelodeon horror anthology series for kids was launched onto our screens.

In each episode a team of kids would gather around the campfire at 12am midnight (which is why their squad name is literally called the Midnight Society) to tell some kid-friendly ghost stories that was sure to bring a laugh to the youngsters and have shivers down the adult viewers' spines.

The series originally ran from 1990-2000. In October 2019, the show was thankfully brought back to the viewing public for your ghoulush pleasure (pun intended)

In a style similar to the inappropiate "IT Chapter" movies, each episode of the current Are You Afraid of the Dark 2019 reboot would follow the same formula of a group of people gathering around the campfire to tell ghost stories at midnight, but this time, the episodes have a twist though. Whenever Rachel or another one of the Midnight Society embers finished telling their stories, the next episode reveals that the events from the said story had unexpectedly been brought to life complete with horror and jumpscares. So Rachel and her other Midnight Society members decide to check out these IRL versions of their own creation and try to execute the villain character who has been kidnapping Rachel's friends.

Despite not being scary enough, the 2019 reboot's first broadcast was sure to have a fun time. The reboot's first three-part 180-minute episode "The Tale of the Carnival of Doom" was so successful that the reboot was greenlight for a 2nd season in 2020.

It is currently unknown what story will unfold in the reboot's new episodes, how many the season will have and/or a runtime for the episodes.

On This Day - Nickelodeon Down At The Roundhouse

 Reprise the the theme song and roll the credits. On this day, 28 years ago, Roundhouse debuted as one of the four initial shows on Nickelodeon's SNICK saturday night block.

The show was filmed at two locations, at the former Nickelodeon Studios at the iconic Universal Orlando Resort theme park and for its remaining three seasons at the CBS studios.

The show has been rerun on Nickelodeon's retro blocks and channels since 2015.

On This Day - SNICK Premiered

 Roll up the orange couch. On this date 28 YEARS AGO, Nickelodeon's iconic late night Saturday block "SNICK" first invaded our screens.

The block's lineup originally included some of Nick's biggest shows at the time Clarissa Explains it All, The Ren & Stipy Show and the premieres of two new Nick series Roundhouse and the hit horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the latter of which had recently gotten rebooted by the network on October 11th, 2019

The block originally ran from 1992-2004 but has been brought back on two occasions in August 2013 and August 2017 on three of Nickelodeon's four retro blocks/channels, The 90s Are All That (2011-2015), The Splat (2015-2017) and NickSplat (2017-2019). The block has yet to be revived on the current retro block/channel NickRewind, not to be confused with the block that aired on the main channel back in 2006.

VAMANOS! Dora The Explorer 20 Years Later...

 On this date 20 years ago today, a new chapter of preschool television legacy was born. Nickelodeon launched Dora the Explorer, an educational series that did the impossible, introducing children to the cultures and vocabulary of other countries, those that speak Espanol to be precise.

Over the years, the Dora franchise has grown, spanning over 175 episodes, two spin-offs Go Diego Go! in 2005 and Dora the Explorer & Friends: Into the City in 2014, a broadway musical adaptation, merchandise, books, videogames, theme park appearances and a 2019 live-action movie adaptation Dora the Explorer and the Lost City of Gold starring Nickelodeon alum Isabella Moner as the new portrayer of one of the first preschool hits of the current millennium that really took the world by storm.

It is currently unknown what Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS have put up their sleeves to ring in the 20th anniversary of one of their biggest preschool properties ever.

As the 20th anniversary of Dora the Explorer, one of the first preschool hits of the millennium is about to be upon the Nickelodeon crew and fanbase, it's only fitting that the company's NOGGIN streaming videos network brought more of this billingual girl to life.
