On This Day - The Nicktoons Invasion

 NOT JUST CARTOONS WE'RE NICKTOONS!!!!

It's been 30 years ago TODAY since Nickelodeon launched the first three series of its larger-than-life Nicktoons franchise, Rugrats, Doug and Ren & Stimpy which would play a key role in the Nickelodeon franchise for decades to come.

Nickelodeon & Disney's Brand Spanking New Doug (1991-1999, 7 seasons x 91 episodes) follows Doug Funnie (Billy West), Skeeter, Porkchop and Roger Klotz (Chris Phillips) as they venture on the struggles of their everyday lifes while Doug wwrites in his diary.

The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991-1994, 5 seasons x 65 episodes) follows the title duo in what is considered the most TERRIBLE and INAPPROPIATE kids series that has ever been made in history. One episode "Man's Best Friend" had Ren beating up an evil man so harmly that his eyes jammed out and deserved the creator to get fired.

Rugrats (1991-2004, 2010-present, 10 seasons x episodes) follows Tommy Pickles (Elizabeth G. Daily), Chuckie Finster (the late great Christine Cavanaugh and current great Nancy Cartwright of The Simpsons), Angelica Pickles (Cheryl Chase), Phil & Lil Devile (Kate Sourie), Susie Carmichael (Cree Summers of Clifford the Big Red Dog and Game Shakers) as well as other babies Dil and Kimi as they venture across their cildhood life. Created by the award-winning team of KLasky Csupo and composed by the Yo Gabba Gabba and Dance-A-Lot Robot genius Mark & Bob Mothersbaugh of DEVO, the franchise has grown to three feature-length films, a crossover with The Wild Thornberrys and a spinoff series All Grown Up which pictured the cast as teenagers and adults. The series came back earlier this may with a Paramount+ CGI reboot which has been doing great ratings so far across both new and longtime fans.

Since then Nickelodeon has grown their Nicktoons library to include other classics and lesser-known favorites such as the obvious SpongeBob SquarePants and The Loud House, Rocko's Modern Life, The ANGRY Beavers, CatDog, KaBlam!, Oh Yeah! and Random! Cartoons, Rocket Power, The Fairly OddParents, Catscratch, Mr. Meaty, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Danny Phantom, Avatar: The Final Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Sanjay & Craig, Breadwinners, Pig Goat Banana Crickets, Welcome to the Wayne, Harvey Beaks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012, Rise of the TMNT, The Cartoon ADventures of Henry Kid Danger, The Casagrandes, It's Pony and Glitch Techs among others.

Other new cartoons which are currently in the works at the first network for kids right now include series based on popular children's books The Big Nate (bowing this September), Phoebe & Her Unicorns and REAL Pigeons Fights Crime, a new reboot on The Smurfs (also dropping next month), Adventures in Wonder Park based on the 2019 animated smash hit movie, Garfield, Man of the House and Meet the Voxels among other series currently in production.

Happy 30th Anniversary to Nicktoons and may the slime continue to fall
