Over the past seven years, a majority of cable TV and radio channels have been going off air or getting less viewers as all music and TV content have been released to streaming services (ABC AUS iView, Disney+, Noggin SVOD, Paramount+, HBO Max, etc.) with occasional cable upgrades here and there but it looks like BBC could be following the same fate.
It was announced earlier this week that CBBC, BBC4 and BBC4 Radio Extra would be going off cable TV and cable radio networks. The news is dissapointing but it however kinda makes sense. Almost everybody has turned off cable TV and radio and is streaming them via the internet on their computers, tablets, phones and apps on their TVs.
Luckilly, CBBC's social media has confirmed that they will be sticking on air for a while.
However, it's currently unconfirmed where these three BBC services will turn off their cable for good. According to the comany's General Director Tim Davies in a recent BBC press news article ahead of the company's century 100th years year-long centennial celebration, they could either take them off air in 2025 or extend the cable input until 2028 when the recent contract deal expires.
A recent video by Adam Martyn with his TV channel within a YouTube channel logic also had a theory on whether or not CBeebies, the company's preschool playground network since February 2002 will follow the same fate with all their new shows being produced and aired online only as well as their hosts doing the in-vision coninuity commercials breaks, although it seems pretty unlikely as CBeebies has a iSVOD page of its own via the BBC iPlayer
For BBC's growth here in America, Nick Jr. is slated to premiere the 2020 CBeebies series Kiri & Lou (3 seasons, 78x5 minutes and 16x22 minutes half-hours) on Monday June 13th at 6pm primetime. NickAlive has put this under the "Noggin" label tags posts category, presumably speculating that the series will get a Noggin SVOD release of its own, following last year's successful acquistions of JoJo & Gran Gran and Alphablocks' mathematics-teaching sequel series Numbersblocks.
